about us

We’re Ashley Perez and Jim Sweeney, the artists behind harlow, a ceramic practice based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Both of us came to clay after being late diagnosed as neurodivergent. What began as a creative outlet quickly became something more grounding. Through the act of making, we became deeply aware of how the environments around us influence mood, clarity, and well-being—and how the objects we live with quietly shape that experience.

Our practice is rooted in that awareness.

Each piece is built individually through a slow, hands-on process, informed by emotion, material, and the coastal environment we call home. We allow subtle variation and traces of the maker’s hand to remain, creating work that carries presence.

While we share a studio, our artistic voices are distinct. Ashley’s work often leans toward organic minimalism and soft silhouettes, while Jim’s explores movement, line, and unique surface detail. Together, our practices offer complementary interpretations of ceramic art for thoughtfully designed interiors.

We create work meant to live alongside daily life, adding depth, warmth, and character to the spaces it becomes part of.

ashley perez

Ashley comes to ceramics from a background in writing and brand storytelling — which means she’s always been interested in emotion, atmosphere, and how small details shape experience. Her work leans contemporary, abstract, and organic, with rounded forms and a mix of soothing neutral palettes and playful, punchy color. Whether quiet or expressive, her pieces are meant to bring a sense of presence and personality into a space.

jim sweeney

Jim’s background is in engineering and video game design, where structure, problem-solving, and visual world-building were central. That translated naturally into ceramics, where he works with clean forms and intricate surface techniques like sgraffito, carving, and raku. His pieces have a modern sculptural presence—thoughtful in form, rich in texture, and full of character.

giving back

We believe art can have impact beyond our studio. A portion of every sale supports organizations that matter deeply to us.

  • Pet Partners: supports therapy animals that bring comfort and healing to people in need.
  • Surfrider Foundation: protects the ocean and coastal communities we call home.

This commitment reflects the values that guide our practice.
