Each raku sculpture is a one-of-a-kind piece, created by using an ancient Japanese firing technique. The pottery is pulled from the kiln while red-hot and placed in a chamber with combustible materials, creating unpredictable textures, colors, crackles, and smoky effects.
This labor-intensive and risky process, with higher rate of breakage, is what makes each raku piece more rare and valuable than standard ceramics.
- Materials: Stoneware raku clay
- Size: Approx. 4" H x 3.25" W
- Finish: Metallic and iridescent with copper, blues, and greens
- Care: Dust gently by hand
-
Other Details:
- Each piece is handmade and may feature slight variations that make it uniquely yours
- Colors may vary slightly due to screen settings
- Not watertight due to raku firing process
- Artist: Jim Sweeney
